Big Adventure 2- Week 2
Monday, Dec. 9
We arrived at Palmetto S.P. in Gonzales, TX late in the afternoon. Because it was hot outside and it takes the RV about an hour to cool off from driving, it was unbearable in the Ham. We hadn’t needed to use the air conditioner before, so I kept my fingers crossed when I turned it on. It worked! With little daylight left, Carol, the girls and I took off on the trails for a hike.
Tuesday, Dec. 10
A front came through over night and brought us cool and wet weather. It was not a fun morning to break camp, empty our waste tanks and fill the fresh water tank. The Walmart in Kerrville, TX was our destination for tonight.
Wednesday, Dec. 11
We choose another Walmart for tonight because of the negative experiences we had last year in the western Texas RV parks.
Thursday, Dec.12
Another day of driving and we will finally be out of Texas. Leasburg Dam S.P. in Las Cruces, NM will put us close to a national park that we’ll visit tomorrow.
Friday, Dec. 13
A perfect, sunny morning was helpful in warming the cold temperatures. We arrived at the national park and couldn’t believe our eyes. The main road in had recently been plowed and there were white drifts everywhere. It was crazy watching people tobogganing down a large hill.
Caught up in the moment, I jumped out of the Ham, laid down and started making a snow angel. At that moment, I realized that we were in White Sand National Park and I was laying in white sand.
Saturday, Dec. 14
Kartchner Caverns S.P. in Arizona is one of the state’s top rated parks. Because it was the weekend, we could only reserve one night here, but we did a get to see the parks beauty and will return in the future.
Sunday, Dec. 15
You have to drive through Phoenix to get to Las Vegas. That means a visit to White Tank Regional Park. Great hiking/biking, beautiful scenery and sunny skies will give a chance to enjoy and relax for a few days.
Wednesday, Dec. 18
Wikiup, AZ was such a fun name, and halfway between Phoenix and Vegas, so we decided to stay there overnight.
Thursday, Dec. 18
We’ll be in Vegas in two hours! See you after the holidays.Leasburg Dam S.P.
