Big Adventure 3 - Week 2
Sunday, Nov. 21
We continued our tour of C.O.E. campgrounds by staying at Jennings Ferry in Akron, AL. As we drove through the campground, we noticed a site with a huge tent and a large party going on. Anxious to get to our site, we continued on. After setting up, we took a walk around the small campground. The campground was busy with falling leaves and many active children. When we passed by the party site, we noticed that a band was setting up. In every campground that we have ever stayed at, no more than 8 people are allowed on a site and everyone is to respect all the other camper’s peace and quiet. By the looks of things, that wasn’t going to happen here.
During supper, the music started – Country. It was actually pretty good. A few hours later, the music was getting louder and we were no longer enjoying it. I went looking for the camp hosts. Unfortunately, I found them at the party, drinking beer and dancing. I returned to the Ham and turned up the volume on our TV.

During breakfast, we heard a man yelling close by. He was in front of our RV, aggravatingly talking on his phone, pacing back and forth. When we got back from our morning walk, he was still involved in his noisy activity. Hours later, in the afternoon, he thankfully pulled out and things were quiet again. We crossing this place off of our return list.
On an afternoon walk with Christy, we encountered the campground’s friendly cat. Christy has always been fascinated with cats but has never been close to one. This one wanted to play with Christy! Their playtime was cut short when the cat was called home for dinner.
Tuesday, Nov. 23
Poverty Point State Park in Louisiana was only going to be an overnight stay until we saw high winds moving into the area. RVers don’t travel during high winds. Since our site wasn’t available through Thanksgiving, we asked to move to a loop where no one else was staying. After all the noise from the last campground, we deserved to have some solitude.
Wednesday, Nov. 24
It was a beautiful, warm, sunny day. A kind of day to sit in the sun – so that’s what we all did. After a few hours, I got bored and went exploring on my bike.
Thanksgiving, Nov. 25
Today was rainy and cool, so except for a few short dog walks, we spent most of the day in the Ham. We enjoyed our Thanksgiving feast and some electronic-device time.
Friday, Nov. 26
Needing just an overnight stay, we found a secluded backyard in Texas of a fellow RVer through our RV membership. One of his outdoor cats recently had kittens and there were kittycats everywhere – Christy was in heaven!
Saturday, Nov. 27
The drive through Dallas/Fort Worth was surprisingly easy. We arrived late in the afternoon at another C.O.E. reservoir, so it only left us time for a dog walk before supper. The Live oak trees throughout the park looked like creatures growing out of the ground. In the evening, it started to rain. The wind and downpours were insane. Because we were parked under a big low branch, we had concern until we fell asleep.
